April 9, 2016: My first serious thought of joining the Peace Corps.
April 24, 2016: Told my parents about my idea. It was my Dad's birthday, and I called them while they were driving. I recall a long silence and then my Dad said I'd have to repeat myself because my mom just "jumped out the car window".
April 26, 2016: I talked with my mom's friend Laurie who is a returned volunteer and officially decided that I was going to apply.
May 18, 2016: Turned in my application- including resume, brief medical history, references and aspiration statement on why I wish to be a volunteer. You are now able to request an exact country you wish to serve, but I tried to stay open to anything.
A week later, I ended up re-submitting much of my materials. I was advised by a PC recruiter to add much more detail to my documents. The Peace Corps uses this information to place you where they feel your are capable of having the biggest impact.
May 31, 2016: Notified that I got an interview.
June 15, 2016: Had interview (90 minutes long via Skype)
August 16, 2016: Got my acceptance email! What a rush.
September - October 2016: Medical, Visa, Passport and Legal clearances. (Lots of doctors' visits and paperwork)
January 22, 2017: Staging (orientation) will begin in Philadelphia.
